Texas Indian-American Physicians Raise Over $40,000 For Charity

San Antonio, TX - The Southwest Chapter of the Texas Indo American Physician Society (TIPS SW) recently raised more than $40,000 to benefit local and national charity organizations.

TIPS SW conducted their third Annual Charity Gala on December 3rd at Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, TX. This is an annual event conducted to raise money for charitable causes.

The chief recipient of the charity was “Haven for Hope,” which is an organization addressing homelessness in San Antonio. Other recipients included “Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,” and “AAPI Charitable Foundation,” which runs charity clinics in the United States and India.

The gala was chaired by Dr. Nandkishore Gurram, cardiologist, San Antonio, TX. The guest of honor was Texas State Representative, Jose Menendez who commended the Indo American Physicians for their dedication and contribution to the San Antonio community.Other attending dignitaries included Dr. Ashok Kumar, president of TIPS SW and Dr. Sunita Kanumury, President, American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin- AAPI.

The gala was preceded by a “Leadership Development Seminar” which was moderated by Dr. Jayesh Shah, Vice President, AAPI in which national speakers addressed the physicians on topics including Physician Advocacy and Media Training.

TIPS SW chapter is one of the AAPI chapter which is a forum to facilitate and enable Indian American Physicians in southwest chapter to excel in patient care, teaching and research, and to pursue their aspirations in professional and community affairs. TIPS SW chapter is also hosting 32nd Annual convention of AAPI in Downtown San Antonio from June 25 -29,2014.
