Cardiologist Srinivas Murali Named American College of Cardiology Governor for Western Pennsylvanyia

PITTSBURGH  - Srinivas Murali, MD, Director, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, and Medical Director, Cardiovascular Institute at West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS) , has been named to the prestigious post of American College of Cardiology (ACC) Governor for Western Pennsylvania.

This honor signifies the high regard in which Dr. Murali is held among his peers and colleagues, according to the ACC, which also noted the intense enthusiasm and strong character evident in Dr. Murali’s willingness to serve the cardiology community of Western Pennsylvania and the country in this capacity.

Dr. Murali will serve a three-year term from 2013-2016. As of Dec. 6, 2011 he serves as Incoming Governor-Elect, and in 2012 he will assume the role of Governor-Elect.

Dr. Murali is an internationally recognized physician in heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support and pulmonary hypertension. He is widely considered to be one of the country’s preeminent experts in these fields.

He graduated from the University of Madras in India and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the Jewish Hospital and Medical Center in New York in 1983. After completing his cardiovascular fellowship training including specialty training in Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh, he joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in 1986. Dr. Murali was the Medical Director of the Cardiac Transplantation Program at the University of Pittsburgh from 1991 to 2002, and the Associate Clinical Director of the UPMC Cardiovascular Institute till 2005. He joined WPAHS in 2005 and is currently a Professor of Medicine at the Temple University School of Medicine.

He has authored or co-authored over 100 publications in the field of heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplantation. He has given over 100 presentations in national and international scientific meetings, and he serves on several committees in the American College of Cardiology, International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Pulmonary Hypertension Association and the Heart Failure Society of America.
