(PTI) WASHINGTON: The powerful Senate India Caucus, which is the largest country specific Caucus in the US Senate, plans to hold a rare reception for the new Indian ambassador to the US, Nirupama Rao.
A joint invitation for the event, which is expected to be attended by a large number of Senators and Indian-American leaders at the Capitol Hill on November 29, is being sent by Senators Mark Warner and John Cornyn.

Such a reception by the Senators is rarely accorded to any foreign smbassador, a reflection of the importance attached to India-US relations.

The House Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans will also host a reception for her at the Capitol Hill on December 1.
The former Indian foreign secretary, Rao arrived in Washington on September 6 and presented her credentials to US President Barack Obama at the White House a few days later.
