In the spotlight - Dr. Sanjay Singh on Entrepreneurship

Sanjay SinghPravasi Herald presents different facets of entrepreneurship through Dr. Sanjay Singh’s experiences as a successful entrepreneur as a partner in Computer Technology Solutions (CTS), the largest privately held software firm in Alabama.

Founded in 1993, CTS has a number of large clients in Alabama and Georgia, and has been profitable for many years.

Dr. Singh is also an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Business. Dr. Singh takes us along on his journey as an entrepreneur in a candid interview with Chief Editor Kusum Singh. He talks about how he got started, his connection with academia, the finances, and the customers. He also talks about the outsiders who have helped the business and the most effective marketing strategy. Then, most importantly, he has some pieces of advice for new entrepreneurs.

In last couple of years Sanjay Singh has been instrumental in forming the Indian Cultural Society working with Indian community leaders passionate about advancing cultural heritage and with the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Singh says,

"Cultural aspect is more important for first generation immigrants, now more than ever. We all come from a very vibrant and rich cultural heritage. There is a great amount of curiosity among the local population to learn and become part of our cultural heritage. The question then becomes how we get to share our culture in an educational way."

Sanjay is on the Board of Directors of Rotary Club of Downtown Birmingham and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. He is the Resident Mentor in Innovation Depot and Mentor in Alabama Launchpad. He is the Executive Board Member of TechBirmingham and Alabama India Business Partnership. He was invited to participate in Gov. Riley’s Trade Mission to Israel and India.
