Dr. Navin Nanda awarded
August 14, 2010. Birmingham, AL. Navin C. Nanda, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Director of the Heart Station / Echocardiography Laboratories at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Birmingham, Alabama, has received two awards recently.
Dr. Nanda was awarded the President’s Distinguished Physician Award by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) at their annual meeting in Washington, D.C. on June 26, 2010. Congressman Steny Hoyer, Majority Leader of the US House of Representatives presented Dr. Nanda with the award “For your extraordinary service and Dedication to our Profession”.
He also received the Melvin L. Marcus Memorial Award “for his distinguished contribution as a Gifted Teacher in Cardiology” by the International Academy of Cardiology at the 15th World Congress on Heart Disease – Annual Scientific Sessions 2010, Vancouver, BC, Canada, July 25, 2010. The presentation was made by Chairman of the Awards Committee, Jeffrey Borer, M.D., Professor and Chair of Medicine and Chief, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York and Asher Kimchi, M.D., President of the International Academy of Cardiology.
Dr. Asher Kimchi, together with Co-Chairmen Dr. Jeffrey S. Borer and Dr. John A. Elefteriades, headed a committee of 125 of the world’s top cardiologists and scientists that reviewed nominees from multiple countries and selected Dr. Nanda for The Melvin L. Marcus Memorial Award “for distinguished contributions as a Gifted Teacher in Cardiology”.
