Poem By Dr. Rampyari Walia
Poem selected from collection of Nature Poems by Dr. Rampyari Walia entitled “Unforgettable Memories, Memorable Places” to be published next week
I wish sometimes to fly once more
On the wings of my imagination
To catch again a fleeting glimpse
Of things that forever hold my fascination
It is then that I think of Alaskan scapes
Calm azure seas and the glaciers
The cruises where you feel at once
Your worries stayed behind on shore.
The endless blue so soothes the eyes
Adorned by blocks of floating ice
An inner excitement begins
Seeing the gliding dolphins
Leisurely watching graceful gulls
White mountain goats and swift eagles
Some curious otters and some seals
All safely captured on video reels
But the sight that takes your breath away
Is the Calving of an avalanche
The sound of cracks, then thunderous roars
As glaciers race to meet waters
The echoing roars of falling ice
Splashing sounds of waves thrown high
Apt music for that magical scene
You witness shivering and chilling
And then sometimes in the still of night
I think of the beautiful northern lights
Then drifting far away in thoughts
My pensive mood gives way to sleep
This wonderful thing they call a life
Is but a book of memories
The sight of Alaskan glaciers
Is etched in my chapter on sceneries

Beautiful picture and a lovely poem. I haven’t had the notion to cruise through the glaciers until now. Your description of the awe and beauty and the cracking booming sounds makes me want to go and witness the splendor.
