Conscience: the Ultimate Guide to Reduce Suffering and Promote Wellness

By N.S. Xavier, M.D.

N. S. Xavier, M.D., psychiatrist and author, grew up in Kerala, completed medical school in India, psychiatric training at the University of Virginia and has been practicing in Birmingham, AL since 1979. This article is based on his latest book “Fulfillment Using Real Conscience”. The book has been endorsed Deepak Chopra, Nobel Laureate President Arias Sanchez, K L.S. Rao and many other experts. This book won the award in the “Psychology/Mental Health” category of “The National Best Books 2009 Awards” sponsored by USA Book News. His website www.nsxavier.com has the first chapter and other information.

We, members of the Indo-American Community have great   potential to contribute to the reduction of suffering and promotion of wellness. Incidentally, since my wife specializes in pain management and I am a psychiatrist, I say she treats pain and I treat suffering. With our higher educational and financial levels, multicultural backgrounds and spiritual interests, we can be very much a part of the solution and less of the problem of bad choices that beset humanity. A good perspective on using conscience to guide our choices can give people the most useful tools for this purpose.

“Well, it was freezing cold,” he says as a smile creeps across his face. “It wasn’t very pleasant, but it was well worth it in the end.”
