Small town girls big time harassment?

So apparently your phone will ring more with a heavy breathing, crazeeee man on the other side  if you live in Bhubaneswar or Hyderabad than if you lived in Bombay or Delhi!

According to a TOI report,  “One-third of girls across cities reported having received obscene calls or messages” and “77% girls felt eve-teasing was the biggest challenge they faced” outside  and “40% girls coped with harassment by ignoring it “  These are the findings from a ‘survey study of 10,000 girls from 10 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Ranchi, Kolkata, Varanasi and Bhubaneswar’.

The revolution of technology and increasing global interface means, anyone can get your phone number and address and no you don’t have to be on Facebook to be a public profile…while on the one hand mobiles are providing ‘over- the- phone’ consultation to patients in rural parts of India and Pakistan. Mobiles are ringing away with lewd and disgusting SMSs that could make life for girls in small towns hell.

Indian wins American science journalism award

My Title

WASHINGTON—Pallava Bagla has won the American Geophysical Union’s 2010  David Perlman Award for Excellence in Science Journalism-News. This award is for his articles on the impact of climate change on Himalayan glaciers. The first of his two articles "No Sign of Himalayan Melt Down, Indian Report Finds", published in the journal Science, explores dissent among glaciologists regarding the claim by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that Himalayan glaciers would imminently disappear. The second article, "Himalayan Glacier Deadline 'Wrong' ", published by BBC News, reports on an apparent typographical error in the IPCC claim which appears to explain the panel’s controversial, 300-year acceleration of when Himalayan glaciers are expected to vanish.
