Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) at Bangalore was responsible for making the Republic day Tableau during International Year of Astronomy (IYA) 2009 in India.

Accoring to the report for the IYA 2009 released at the European Week of Astronomy and Space Science in Lisbon, Portugal, the highest participation figures for IYA2009 events came from India, where over 700 million people were reported as being reached by IYA2009 events. This was mainly due to Indian astronomers proudly showcasing their work at the Republic Day parade in Delhi. With 30,000 people watching in person and an estimated 700 million watching on television, this was by far the biggest single event in the IYA2009 program.

Every once in a while communities take giant leaps forward in a very short period of time. Our Alabama Indian Communities have done just that in past year or two. New ideas are forming, new connections are happening.

Pravasi Herald is connecting people far and near, bringing communities closer and serving as the bridge for the mainstream Alabamians to Indian people, culture, and events. Let’s not be bashful about showing off our talents, achievements and heritage. This is our forum for expression.

India’s economy is burgeoning. Indians in US are making their mark in politics and entertainment as well. There is going to be an ever-increasing interest in all-things Indian.

Pravasi Herald will be expanding its features, frequency and coverage in other states in very near future. We are inviting all suggestions that can enhance your experience with Pravasi Herald.

We thank you for your readership!

Sincerely,

Article: Beyond the Bible Belt: The Expansion of Indian-American Community

This is an excellent analysis. After coming back from a visit to Italy where I see the different churches associated with particular saints, your analysis is excellent. Indian way of (un)organized religion is different. The US is a great country for allowing people to practice whatever religious beliefs they have. Pl. continue your work.

We are a thriving, close-knit and forward-looking community. Pravasi is continually connecting people, creating ideas, profiling leaders, showcasing talents, and providing perspectives. Pravasi Herald’s guiding principle is to be “The Bridge to the Indian Community”.

With the globalization of the world and India emerging as a dominant economy and powerhouse of talent, Indian community will have a larger role to play. It is more important than ever that we involve mainstream into our cultural events and that we are more involved in mainstream organizations. We know it is the thing to do – we have taught our kids - our second generation is already doing it.
