Rahul’s Rave Reviews - “The Hunger Games”

By: Rahul G.

“Hey, my name is Rahul. I am currently an eighth grader and reading is one of my favorite pastimes, as well as sports and video games. I want to help other readers choose books by writing book reviews. I know how hard it can be to find a book if someone doesn’t recommend one to you. I hope you enjoy my book reviews!”

When reading this book, THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins, I felt like I was in a state of repose in the real world, and I literally felt like I was the main character, Katniss Everdeen. This book grabs you by the throat and pulls you in. It contains action, love, survival, and a bloody fight to the finish.

I am Proud…

January 7, 2009
By Yash M.
South Shades Crest Elementary School, Birmingham, AL

I am proud to be an American because anyone who at least 18 and a law abiding citizen can vote. Before, only men could vote. When America was divided into the thirteen colonies, only King James could vote. I am very thankful for the men who died trying to make our country a free place. I am proud to be an American because of the people in the military who died trying to protect us. Without all those people, America would have never been like it is today. We would still have to pray to whomever the king worshiped. Today we can worship whomever we want to worship and I’m very thankful for that. I am proud to be an American because we have great school systems and teachers like Ms. Crowley to teach us. Now we can all go to school wherever we want to go and get a job. I am very thankful for all of those who went to war and died trying to protect us. You should also be thankful.

India’s Independence Day

By: Aarthi N.
Grade 5, Birmingham, AL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Independence Day for any country is one of the most important holidays for that country, and India’s is no exception.
India’s Independence Day is on August 15, 1947. India gained its independence from the British. The British had ruled over India for over 200 years. Mahatma Gandhi is one of India’s most famous freedom fighters, if not the most important one.
On August 15, in schools and colleges all over India, no academic work is done. People only go to offices to hoist the Indian Flag. All government offices are closed. Shops are strictly told to pull down their shutters.
